2. Bad breath

Caption:
Many times people who have bad breath don’t realize it because they can’t smell it themselves and the people who live with them are embarrassed or afraid to let them know. Unfortunately, it’s a very common problem.
Many people believe that bad breath, or halitosis, is always caused by stomach issues. But in reality, it’s not quite like that. Some sphincters separate the stomach from the mouth and they close when the food goes through them. The stomach can cause bad breath in only two cases: the burp (or gastric eructation) and gastroesophageal reflux (when the valve that separates the esophagus from the stomach is not working properly).
In most cases, what causes halitosis is the tongue. Rests of food can accumulate between the taste buds, and if they are not removed adequately end up creating a proper environment for the proliferation of bactéria, which causes the bad smell.
Smokers can also have bad breath. In these cases, the bad smells come from the lungs, which is why it’s not efficient to try to chew gum to mask the odor.
According to the Brazilian Association of Halitosis (ABHA) there are 60 causes for chronic halitosis. The ABHA also created a service called “SOS Mau Hálito” (SOS Bad Breath) so you can let your friend with halitosis know they have a problem anonymously.

2. Found out which foods are allies of your oral health

Caption:
A balanced diet is not only important for the body's health but also for the oral health! Some foods are true allies in the prevention of caries and in making the teeth stronger.
Want to know more about how your diet can impact your oral health? Check out our tips!
🍎 Fruits and vegetables rich in fiber: apples, carrots, cucumbers, and broccoli are excellent choices. Not only do they stimulate the production of saliva, but they also help to remove bacterial plaque from your teeth through chewing.
🥛Dairy: milk, cheese, and yogurt are sources of calcium and phosphorus, minerals that are essential for the health of the bones and teeth.
🐟 Foods that are rich in calcium: besides dairy, other calcium-rich foods, like almonds, sardines, and tofu, are important in making teeth stronger and preventing dental caries.
💦 Water: drinking water regularly helps keep your mouth hydrated and remove food residue, contributing to the prevention of caries and gum diseases. Choose water as your main drink throughout the day.
🍵 Green tea: green tea contains antioxidant compounds that can help reduce gum inflammation and combat bacteria that cause caries. Green tea also helps reduce bad breath.
🌰 Nuts and seeds: almonds, walnuts, sunflower, and pumpkin seeds are good sources of calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium, which help keep teeth and gums healthy.
Include these foods in your daily diet to keep your teeth stronger, protect your gums, and promote general oral health. And of course, it's no use eating well and not keeping a good oral hygiene routine, including brushing regularly, flossing, and visiting your dentists occasionally for exams and cleaning.

3. Mouthwash

Caption:
The answer is simple: it's not bad for you. But it's important to understand a few things before using
mouthwash:
It doesn't substitute brushing and flossing: the product cleans only chemically, which means it doesn't clean completely, and it doesn't remove the biofilm from the tongue, for example. The mechanical cleaning with the toothbrush and the floss is still necessary.🦷🪥
Don't use mouthwash with alcohol: even adults should avoid mouthwash with this ingredient. That's because alcohol kills the "good" bacteria that help keep your mouth healthy. 👄
Choose well: the regular use of a few specific mouthwashes can help in many treatments, like preventing gum inflammation, which is gingivitis. But it's not just any mouthwash that does that. That's why you must consult your dentist if you have any specific problem.
In conclusion, mouthwash can be a useful tool in your oral hygiene routine but it's important to use it correctly and along with other care, like brushing and flossing, to keep your mouth always clean and healthy.😄
